Old refrigerants can harm the ozone layer and contribute to global warming. Refrigerant recovery uses specialized equipment to safety remove refrigerant from old air conditioners, protecting the environment.
Ozone depletion leads to higher levels of harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation reaching the Earth’s surface. This can cause skin cancer, cataracts, and other health issues in humans, as well as damaging plant life and marine ecosystems.
Higher UV radiation affects phytoplankton, the foundational organisms in the ocean food web. Phytoplankton are crucial for the survival of many marine species, and their decline can disrupt the entire marine ecosystem.
Increase in earth’s average temperature is affecting our daily lives by causing more extreme weather, rising sea levels, disrupted food supplies, and increased health risks.
In simple terms, refrigerant recovery involves transferring the refrigerant from an air-conditioning system into a refillable cylinder during repairs or replacements. This process prevents the refrigerant from leaking into the atmosphere, which helps avoid the release of ozone-depleting and greenhouse gases. These substances are used to transfer heat in these systems but can be harmful to the environment and human health if not handled properly. It also reduces the need to produce new refrigerants.

To ensure the continuous improvement of the entire Daikin Group’s environmental management, environmental meetings are held once a year in four regions (Europe, the U.S., China, and Asia/Oceania). In addition, oncef every two years Global Environmental Meetings are held.* At the meetings, local base presidents, environmental heads, and environmental managers in each division, along with the environmental managers in each division in Japan, share Group policy and medium- and long-term targets.
In 2019, at the 4th Global Environmental Meeting, we officially kicked off the Environmental Vision 2050 formulated in fiscal 2018. In aiming to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, we agreed to further reduce waste, ensure thorough horizontal implementation based on examples of improvement, develop energy saving technology, and proceed with energy conversion.
