How to Effectively Use Your Air Conditioners?

When the heat is up, it means you will be running the air conditioner a lot more than usual if you must stay cool. Running the aircon at this rate can reduce the efficiency of the system.

The tips below will help ease the burden on your air conditioner, reduce your energy bills, and cut down your carbon footprint.

1. Block the sunlight

Letting the sun into your home will increase the indoor temperature. Close the curtains on the sunny sides.

2. Turn on the fan

When the temperature isn’t so hot, like at night, you can turn off the air conditioner and use the fan. Fans take far less energy than air conditioners.

However, if the temperature is still a bit uncomfortable, you can use both fan and air conditioner while setting the temperature above 25 degrees.

The fan will help to move the cold air around the room. Doing this will save a significant amount of energy while providing you with the comfort you need.

3. Keep the outdoor unit out of the sun

It is advisable to place your aircon unit on the north side of the house. Understandably, there are times when this positioning may not be ideal due to the space in the area or due to other reasons.

If you must keep the unit at the sunny side, build a small roof above your air conditioning unit, keeping the outdoor unit cool will help the system run effectively.

4. Clear the condensing unit

The condensing unit placed outside requires air to blow across the refrigerant. It is how hot air gets expelled from your home. Therefore, ensure that there is enough space around the condenser for proper airflow.

If you must plant trees around the area, keep it as far as 3 to 4 feet away from the condenser. Also, ensure that no grass or dirt is blocking the bottom openings.

5. Seal air leaks

If you have any cracks, holes, or other openings in your home, fix them. Those openings will allow the cold air out and hot air into your home.

Fix them with caulk or a foam sealer. If you live in a home with more than one floor, pay attention to the upper area of the house. That is where cold air is likely to escape.

In a Nutshell

Follow the tips above, along with regular maintenance, to have your air conditioner run effectively.

Also, make sure your unit is checked by a professional, such as Daikin to ensure that the system, connections, and ductwork are ready to run when the heat comes.
